After a difficult injury-hit season, Jorge Martin has returned to MotoGP form with a standout podium run, while insisting his best performance is still to come.

Jorge Martin has made an emphatic return to the front of MotoGP, overcoming a prolonged injury setback to re-establish himself among the leading contenders. Despite already delivering podium results, the reigning 2024 champion believes he is still short of peak performance.

Martin’s 2025 season was heavily disrupted, with the Spaniard completing only four Grands Prix due to ongoing physical issues. A post-season medical review confirmed incomplete recovery, forcing him to undergo two additional operations. During this period, he faced severe physical limitations that extended to basic daily activities.

His lack of preparation ahead of the 2026 season, including missing the Sepang test, placed him at an early disadvantage. However, his return to racing quickly exceeded expectations. A pair of top five finishes in Buriram marked a strong reintroduction and hinted at his competitive potential.

That promise was fully realised at the Brazilian Grand Prix. After showing pace throughout practice, Martin secured third place in the sprint race before improving to second in the main race. The result completed a one two finish for Aprilia Racing alongside teammate Marco Bezzecchi.

A decisive moment came when Martin executed a bold double overtake on Marc Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio, underlining his regained confidence and racecraft. The performance marked his first podium appearance since his championship-winning 2024 campaign.

Beyond physical recovery, he continues to adapt to the characteristics of the Aprilia RS GP machine, acknowledging that increased familiarity will be key to unlocking further performance.

The 2026 Aprilia package has shown clear competitiveness in the early rounds. Martin has already reduced the gap to Bezzecchi after trailing him in Thailand, suggesting steady progress. He noted that tension on the bike still affects his riding, but improvements are coming with each session.

A scheduled break following the upcoming United States Grand Prix is expected to play a crucial role. The pause will allow Martin additional time to recover physically and further refine his understanding of the bike before the European phase of the season begins.

In the championship standings, Martin currently sits second, just nine points behind leader Bezzecchi. Despite this strong position, he remains cautious about his title prospects, focusing instead on building consistency over race distance.

Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola expressed confidence in Martin’s trajectory, describing him as a naturally fast rider with proven championship pedigree. Rivola believes the Spaniard’s current performances are only an early indication of what he can achieve with the team.
