Starting from eighth on the grid, Jorge Martin produced a sensational opening lap at the Le Mans Sprint Race to snatch the lead within the first corners before cruising to a dominant sprint win.

Jorge Martin delivered one of the standout performances of the season after storming from eighth on the grid to win the Le Mans Sprint Race in commanding fashion.

The Spaniard made an explosive start and immediately gained ground as the field charged into the opening corners at Le Mans. While several front runners battled for position, Martin spotted a clear line through the chaos and quickly moved up four places before the first major braking zone.

The decisive moment came at the opening chicane. Despite approaching from the outside, Martin carried impressive speed into the corner and swept past rivals including Marco Bezzecchi, Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez to take the lead.

Once in front, the Pramac Racing rider controlled the race with confidence and was never seriously threatened on his way to a dominant sprint victory, his second of the season.

Speaking after the race, Martin admitted instinct played a major role in his aggressive opening lap, although he revealed part of the move had been carefully planned.

β€œIt was a bit of instinct for sure,” said Martin. β€œI had confidence in my pace and I was very determined into the first corners. Maybe there was also some luck because from eighth place you cannot predict what everybody else will do. But the braking point itself was planned.”

Martin added that his original target after the start was simply to move into the top five rather than immediately challenge for the lead.

Although his opening lap stole the spotlight, the Spaniard stressed that maintaining the pace afterwards was equally important. He continued to push from the front to prevent his rivals from closing the gap and managed the race calmly until the chequered flag.

Despite the praise surrounding his performance at Le Mans, Martin does not consider it the best opening lap of his career. Instead, he pointed to his charge from 15th to third during the 2021 Qatar race as his finest comeback through the field.
