Valencia Grand Prix winner Marco Bezzecchi has explained his ‘marriage proposal’ stunt following Sunday’s MotoGP season finale.

In a victory lap celebration of which his countryman Valentino Rossi would have been proud, the Italian went down on one knee and ‘proposed’ to the RS-GP that had carried him to victory.

Back in the paddock, Bezzecchi assured media that “she said yes” and explained that the Aprilia really would be coming home with him. That’s because the triumph in Valencia, his third grand prix success of the season, also earned him a last-ditch win in a bet with CEO Massimo Rivola.

“I won this bike in a bet with Massimo,” he said. “I told him that if I was able to win three races then the bike was coming home. And I won the bike… so I had to ask her if she wanted to marry me. And fortunately she said ‘yes’.

“You know, it’s super trendy to get married now and I wanted to be a little bit more trendy,” joked the 27-year-old. “Normally, I don’t follow these kinds of things so much… but I love my bike, it was super cool.”

The Rimini man later elaborated on how he had used the bet as motivation to perform throughout the season.

“In my living room I have a huge space that I’ve kept empty [for the bike] all season,” he said.

“It’s been the first thing I see whenever I go into the house. This way, every time I came back home from training, I remembered very well what [I want] to try to achieve.”

The celebration is not the first creative one Bezzecchi has produced in 2025. Following his sprint win at Misano in September, he produced a wooden leg. Although puzzling to non-Italians, this film reference was a hit with his compatriots.
