The first official MotoGP pre-season test of 2026 takes place in Sepang from February 3 to 5, with all full-time riders set to evaluate new machinery ahead of the new campaign.

The first official MotoGP pre-season test of the 2026 season will take place at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia from February 3 to 5, bringing together the full grid for three days of intensive preparation.

Following last week’s shakedown test, the Sepang sessions mark the first opportunity for teams and riders to work extensively on their latest bikes, evaluate new components, and refine race setups ahead of the season opener.

Daily Schedule

Each day follows the same timetable in Malaysia local time (MYT):

  • Morning Session: 10:00 to 13:00
  • Lunch Break: 13:00 to 13:20
  • Afternoon Session: 13:20 to 18:00

The format allows teams to complete long runs, performance simulations, and late-session time attacks across both sessions.

Rider Line-Up and Absentees

All full-time MotoGP riders are eligible to take part in the Sepang test, making it the first full-scale comparison of team performance for 2026.

However, two riders will miss the test due to injury:

  • Jorge Martin (Aprilia): Recovering from multiple post-season surgeries
  • Fermin Aldeguer (Gresini): Sidelined with a fractured tibia

Teams are permitted to use test riders as replacements, with Aprilia expected to rely on Lorenzo Savadori in Martin’s absence.

Testing Priorities

The Sepang test is a crucial development stage for manufacturers. Teams focus on:

  • Evaluating new chassis and aerodynamic packages
  • Refining electronics and engine mapping
  • Testing tyre performance and race pace
  • Finalising base setups for upcoming races

With limited in-season testing allowed, progress made in Sepang often shapes a team’s early-season competitiveness.

Ways for Fans to Stay Updated

While there is no free live broadcast of the test, fans can still follow developments:

  • Official Team Social Media: Most MotoGP teams and riders share regular updates, photos, and short videos on platforms such as X, Instagram, and Facebook.
  • MotoGP and Manufacturer Websites: Daily summaries and press releases are often published for free.
  • Motorsport News Portals: Major racing websites like GOD55 Sports will provide session reports, analysis, and timing highlights at no cost.
  • Fan Forums and Communities: Online MotoGP communities frequently share unofficial timing updates and key developments.

What Comes Next

After Sepang, teams will head to Thailand for the final official pre-season test at Buriram on February 21 and 22. The 2026 MotoGP season will then begin one week later with the Thai Grand Prix on March 1.

With major technical changes under evaluation and several riders returning from injury, the Sepang test is expected to play a key role in shaping the early competitive order for the new season.
