Johann Zarco may not consider himself the favourite for the French MotoGP, but with rain forecast at Le Mans, the French rider could once again turn difficult conditions into a major advantage despite Honda’s ongoing struggles.

The possibility of rain at this weekend’s French Grand Prix has once again placed Johann Zarco in the spotlight, with many wondering if the Frenchman can produce another memorable performance at Le Mans.

Zarco became one of the biggest stories of the 2025 race after excelling in difficult weather conditions, and with similar forecasts expected for Sunday, local fans are hoping history could repeat itself.

Despite the growing excitement, the LCR Honda rider has been careful not to raise expectations too high. Zarco admitted that many supporters want to believe another miracle is possible, but he understands how difficult it would be to recreate last year’s success.

“I don’t think I’m coming here as a favourite,” said Zarco. “People want to believe it.”

Still, the French rider knows wet conditions could offer him a valuable opportunity. Honda has struggled to consistently match the pace of Ducati and other leading manufacturers in dry races this season, but changing weather conditions often reduce the performance gap between machines.

In wet or mixed conditions, rider confidence and control become far more important, an area where Zarco has regularly excelled throughout his MotoGP career.

His performance at Jerez recently highlighted that strength once again. During a damp qualifying session, Zarco secured a front-row start and showed impressive speed on the slippery track. Although he later finished seventh in the dry race, his pace in difficult conditions reinforced his reputation as one of the grid’s strongest wet-weather riders.

Zarco also explained that he performs best not in extreme rain, but on tracks with limited grip and constantly changing conditions.

“What I like the most is when there is a little bit less water on the track,” he said.

Those conditions allow Zarco to build confidence while many of his rivals struggle to adapt to the changing surface and tyre grip.

While the Frenchman remains realistic about his chances, he admitted the home crowd at Le Mans would welcome wet weather far more than anyone else in the paddock.

“I think the French fans are the only ones hoping for rain for the grand prix,” he joked.

For Zarco and his supporters, another rainy Sunday at Le Mans could provide the perfect chance for another unforgettable performance.
