Brazilian rider Diogo Moreira had an unusual start to his MotoGP career when he discovered his gloves did not fit properly ahead of his first premier class race at the Thailand Grand Prix. Moreira turned to multiple world champion Marc Márquez for help and ended up racing the weekend wearing Márquez’s gloves.
Moreira later explained that his own pair felt uncomfortable during final checks before the race. With little time to find a replacement, he approached Márquez, who agreed to lend him a pair for the event. The young rookie even joked that wearing Márquez’s gloves might help him go a few seconds faster on track.
The gesture highlights a supportive side of the MotoGP paddock and the relationship between the two riders. In recent years, Moreira has spent time training with both Marc and his brother Álex Márquez, gaining experience from the veterans.
Moreira entered the premier class in 2026 with the LCR Honda team after an impressive 2025 season in Moto2, where he clinched the world championship. His title marked a milestone as he became the first Brazilian to win a world championship in Grand Prix motorcycle racing.
Despite the equipment hiccup, Moreira had a positive debut in Thailand. He finished 13th and scored his first MotoGP points, a solid result for a rookie facing the challenge of adapting to the faster, more demanding premier class.
For Moreira, competing in MotoGP’s top tier is a learning experience, and the friendly assistance from Márquez provided an unexpected start to his new chapter at the pinnacle of motorcycle racing.
