Malaysian mixed doubles player Shevon Lai Jemie showed remarkable determination after recovering from dengue and competing in two major international badminton tournaments in Europe. She was diagnosed with dengue and battled the illness for eight days before flying overseas to take part in the German Open and All England recently.
Despite the limited preparation time, Shevon and her partner and husband Goh Soon Huat delivered solid performances. At the German Open in Mulheim, the pair reached the quarter-finals before losing to Singapore-Indonesian duo Terry Hee and Gloria Widjaja with scores of 17-21 and 13-21.
They then competed at the prestigious All England tournament in Birmingham, where they made it to the second round. They were defeated 16-21 and 18-21 by China’s world No. 2 pair Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin.
Shevon acknowledged that her performance was affected by her recent illness. She had only two days of training before returning to competitive play, but she expressed gratitude for being back on court and sharing competitive matches with her partner.
Their efforts reflect resilience and commitment as they work to regain full form after health setbacks, and Shevon’s determination has drawn praise from fans and the badminton community alike.
