Jannik Sinner continued his dominant run on the ATP Tour after defeating fellow Italian Andrea Pellegrino 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia.
The world No. 1 required less than 90 minutes to complete another convincing victory in Rome, extending his unbeaten run to 26 matches this season. The win also marked his 31st consecutive victory at Masters 1000 level, further underlining his remarkable consistency over the past year.
Sinner quickly took control of the all-Italian encounter by breaking Pellegrino twice in the opening set. Although Pellegrino settled into the match during the second set, Sinner maintained the pressure and broke again at 3-3 before closing out the contest comfortably.
The Italian star has now reached the quarterfinals in Rome without dropping a set and remains firmly on course to challenge for another Masters 1000 title.
Sinner’s current streak at Masters level began last season and has already seen him make history as the first player to win five consecutive Masters 1000 tournaments. With Carlos Alcaraz currently sidelined through injury, Sinner has continued to strengthen his position at the top of the men’s game.
Despite the defeat, Pellegrino leaves Rome with plenty of positives after producing the best run of his career at Masters level. The 29-year-old qualifier battled through the preliminary rounds before recording notable victories over Arthur Fils and Frances Tiafoe during the main draw.
Sinner praised his countryman after the match and acknowledged Pellegrino’s progress following an impressive week in front of the home crowd.
The Italian top seed will next face either Andrey Rublev or Nikoloz Basilashvili for a place in the semifinals.
Having reached the final in Rome last year, Sinner remains one of the clear favourites to lift the title as he continues building momentum ahead of Roland Garros.
