Iga Swiatek has added another notable achievement to her growing list of accolades, this time off the court. The world No. 1 was recently voted Poland’s most successful athlete in a popular television survey, finishing ahead of football star Robert Lewandowski.
Swiatek topped the poll during an appearance on Familiada, Poland’s version of Family Feud, receiving 26 votes from participants. Speaking at her Doha media day, she admitted she was surprised by the result and praised Lewandowski’s lasting influence on Polish sport.
“I was surprised I was first and Robert was second. To me, he is still a legend,” Swiatek said.
While the recognition reflects her growing popularity at home, Swiatek remains firmly focused on her on-court goals as she prepares for the Qatar TotalEnergies Open. The Polish star has enjoyed consistent success in Doha, having won the title three times, and arrives with confidence following her quarterfinal appearance at the Australian Open.
In recent weeks, Swiatek has worked on refining key elements of her game, including her serve, forehand, and movement. She noted that Doha’s slower playing conditions demand patience and strong positioning.
“You cannot wait for the ball to come to you here,” she said.
Away from training, Swiatek has also taken time to explore the city. She recently visited the Museum of Islamic Art with fellow player Amanda Anisimova and said she appreciated the opportunity to experience local culture during tournaments.
Swiatek is set to begin her campaign against either Indonesian wild card Janice Tjen or Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia, who entered the main draw as a lucky loser. As the season’s first WTA 1000 event gets underway, Swiatek will be aiming to translate her popularity and preparation into another strong run in Doha.
