There will be no repeat champions in the Pickleball Champions League (PCL) as Team Shenyang, representing the hosts, beat Pickleyard Somo of the Philippines to capture the overall title of PCL Season 2, which came to a close on Sunday at the Longhua District in Shenzhen, China.

Team Zhuhai bested Team Shenyang, 3-2, in an all-China Finals that went down to the wire. Team Zhuhai got a head start with a 21-15 victory in Men’s Doubles before Team Shenyang tied things up with a 21-12 triumph in Women’s Doubles. The two teams traded wins in the two Mixed Doubles matches, leading to a Dreambreaker, which Team Zhuhai won, 21-12, to earn the PCL Season 2 crown.

The two Chinese teams were the last ones standing from a talented field of 28 pickleball squads from seven Asian countries—China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, and Thailand. The Philippines’ Pickleyard Somo rounded out the podium by claiming bronze after losing to the eventual champions in the semis, 3-1 (20-18, 21-17, 19-21, 21-15). Shenyang, meanwhile, booked a seat in the Finals with a commanding 3-0 (21-17, 21-10, 21-15) victory over Indonesia’s Bali Pickleball Club.

“It’s a great honour to participate. Competing with top players from so many countries is an invaluable experience,” Team Shenyang player Miao Yaxuan told Longhua Government Online.

The Finals saw leading figures from the global pickleball and sports sectors in attendance. Among those who witnessed the championship were PCL founder Steve Kuhn, Ramsports Group president Alex Yuen, and Li Xiaoning of Li Ning Group.
