Tech3 is still undecided on its future manufacturer partnership for MotoGP’s 2027 era, with team boss Guenther Steiner exploring both KTM and Honda options as the rider market begins to intensify.

Tech3 is approaching a major decision that could shape the team’s long-term future in MotoGP, with discussions continuing over whether to remain with KTM or switch to Honda for the new 850cc era starting in 2027.

The French squad is currently the last major independent team yet to confirm its manufacturer plans beyond the upcoming regulation changes, making its choice one of the most closely watched developments in the paddock.

Since taking charge of Tech3 last year, Guenther Steiner has begun evaluating the team’s long-term direction, including exploring alternative partnerships before committing to a new deal.

Tech3 team manager Nicolas Goyon confirmed that negotiations with KTM are ongoing, but also revealed that Steiner has opened discussions with Honda as the Japanese manufacturer looks to strengthen its satellite presence in MotoGP.

According to Goyon, the process is simply part of a broader strategic review rather than an indication that Tech3 has already decided to leave KTM.

“Guenther is simply carrying out market research,” Goyon explained.

The timing of the decision is particularly important because the 2027 regulations will introduce a completely new technical era in MotoGP, with the championship switching from 1000cc machinery to 850cc bikes. The reset is expected to create new opportunities for manufacturers to close performance gaps and reshape the competitive order.

Remaining with KTM would offer Tech3 continuity after several successful seasons together, while a switch to Honda could allow the team to become part of the Japanese manufacturer’s rebuilding project as it attempts to return to the front of the grid.

The uncertainty, however, is beginning to affect preparations for the future rider market.

Goyon admitted that Tech3 needs clarity on its manufacturer plans before it can seriously negotiate with riders looking for long-term projects beyond 2026.

“We need to finalise the manufacturer so we can talk to the riders,” he said.

With several teams already locking in future plans for the new rules era, Tech3 risks falling behind if discussions continue for too long.

Other independent squads, including VR46 Racing Team, have already committed to Ducati for the upcoming regulation cycle, leaving Tech3 as one of the final unresolved pieces in the future MotoGP grid.

Despite wider commercial negotiations currently taking place between MotoGP management and manufacturers, Tech3’s own talks have reportedly continued without disruption.

Goyon suggested that a clearer direction is now beginning to emerge, with the team hoping to finalise its future plans soon as preparations for MotoGP’s next era accelerate.
