Toprak Razgatlioglu achieved a milestone in his rookie MotoGP season by scoring his first point at the Circuit of the Americas, although the result came amid continued challenges for Yamaha.
Riding for Prima Pramac Yamaha, the Turkish rider finished 15th in Sunday’s race, securing a single championship point. He was also the highest-placed Yamaha rider, highlighting both his progress and the manufacturer’s current struggles.
Razgatlioglu showed determination throughout the race and capitalised on late developments, moving ahead of fellow Yamaha riders in the closing stages. However, the overall performance of the M1 remained a concern, with all four Yamaha machines finishing near the back of the field.
Despite the modest result, the point carries significance for the reigning WorldSBK champion, who is still adapting to the demands of MotoGP. The step up to the premier class has proven challenging, with both the bike’s limitations and the learning curve playing a role in his early races.
The gap to the front was again evident at COTA, with Razgatlioglu finishing more than 25 seconds behind race winner Marco Bezzecchi, underlining the scale of the task facing Yamaha.
While the result may appear minor, it represents a step forward for Razgatlioglu and provides a morale boost for the team as they continue to search for improvements.
