Malaysia’s mixed doubles stars Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei enter the upcoming All England as serious contenders after their world championship success, with former ace Chan Peng Soon backing their ability to beat top pairs.

Malaysia’s reigning mixed doubles world champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei have a strong chance of claiming another major title at the All England Championships, according to former national star Chan Peng Soon. The pair’s form and confidence have put them among the favourites for the prestigious Super 1000 event in Birmingham next week.

Chan, who reached the All England mixed doubles final with Goh Liu Ying in 2017, believes the world No. 4 pair can compete with anyone in the draw, including top Chinese combinations such as Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping and Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin.

For Malaysia, success at the All England would build on their historic achievement at the 2025 World Championships in Paris, where Tang Jie and Ee Wei captured the mixed doubles title, becoming the first Malaysian pair to win that event at a World Championships.

Chan stressed that to go all the way, Tang Jie and Ee Wei must settle quickly into their rhythm in the early rounds in Birmingham. The pair open their campaign against Denmark’s Rasmus Espersen and Amalie Cecelie Kudsk in the first round, with a likely all‑Malaysian meeting against fellow world tour players Jimmy Wong and Lai Pei Jing in the last 16.

The draw could see Tang Jie and Ee Wei face the world’s top pair Yan Zhe and Dong Ping in the semifinals, and a potential clash with Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin in the final.

Former stars and fans alike view the duo’s progress as a key highlight of Malaysia’s badminton season. Their world title in 2025 inspired renewed belief in the national squad’s potential, and a triumph at the All England would solidify their status among the elite in the sport.
