Ducati has begun testing its 2027 850cc MotoGP prototype at Misano, offering the first real glimpse of the sport’s next technical era.

Ducati has taken a major step into MotoGP’s future, bringing its 2027-era 850cc prototype to the track for the first time at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. The early shakedown marks one of the first real-world tests of the next generation of MotoGP machinery, ahead of sweeping technical changes set for 2027.

The prototype, an early version of the Desmosedici GP27, was tested during a private session with veteran Ducati test rider Michele Pirro. The run took place alongside Ducati’s development academy activities, as the team focused on initial systems checks and basic performance evaluation rather than full-speed running.

Early observations from the bike reflect the direction MotoGP is heading. The machine follows the new 850cc engine regulations and was seen with simplified aerodynamics and no ride-height devices, giving an early preview of a more streamlined technical era. Tire partner Pirelli was also present, working on future compounds for the 2027 regulations, highlighting how multiple areas of the sport are evolving together.

Further development work is expected to continue soon, with World Superbike contender Nicolo Bulega set to play a key role in the next phase of testing. His upcoming sessions will provide a deeper evaluation of the new machine under more competitive conditions.

Ducati’s early track debut puts them ahead in the development race, while Aprilia remains the only major manufacturer yet to publicly test its 2027 prototype. More activity is expected in upcoming private tests at Jerez following the Spanish Grand Prix, where multiple teams are preparing to accelerate their next-generation programs.

With the 2027 rule changes approaching, Ducati’s Misano run signals the beginning of a new technical chapter in MotoGP development.
