Top seed and defending champion Shi Yu Qi withdrew from the YONEX French Open 2025 due to a shoulder injury. The reigning world champion had been hoping to defend his title in France following his runner-up finish at the Denmark Open last week and was due to face Wang Tzu Wei at the Glaz Arena in Rennes.

His withdrawal sees Kunlavut Vitidsarn move up due to the seed withdrawal movement and will face the Chinese Taipei shuttler in the first round. Interestingly, Shi was triumphant over the Thai Olympic silver medallist at the 2024 edition. It now leaves the men’s singles category wide open.

Top seeds, also from China are Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning also withdrew from the tournament. The pair lost out in the quarterfinals of the Denmark Open with Liu still nursing an injury. Rin Iwanaga/Kie Nakanishi will occupy their spot.
