Andrea Iannone is making a notable return to full-time racing, stepping into unfamiliar territory with the FIM Harley-Davidson Baggers World Cup. The former MotoGP and WorldSBK rider, widely known as “The Maniac,” is embracing a new chapter that could redefine his career.
The Baggers World Cup, a support series held during selected MotoGP weekends, has quickly gained attention for its unique concept and growing competitiveness. Iannone’s arrival is expected to raise the championship’s profile further, given his reputation for aggressive riding and race-winning pedigree.
He will make his debut with Niti Racing at the iconic Mugello Circuit from May 29 to 31. Known for its fast layout and technical corners, Mugello presents a demanding test, especially as Iannone has yet to ride the Harley-Davidson machine in race conditions.
Despite the challenge, Iannone has made it clear that he is not returning simply to make up the numbers. He described the move as an opportunity to step outside his comfort zone and take on something completely different. He also stressed his intention to adapt quickly and compete at the front from the outset.
Niti Racing enters the partnership in strong form, having already secured a win earlier in the season with Oscar Gutierrez in the United States. The addition of Iannone strengthens the team’s ambitions and sets up a potentially competitive pairing for the remainder of the campaign.

The 2026 Baggers World Cup season features six rounds, each consisting of two races. Following Mugello, the series will continue at Assen, Silverstone, MotorLand Aragon, and the Red Bull Ring before concluding in September. The calendar offers multiple opportunities for Iannone to establish himself in this new discipline and demonstrate that his return is more than symbolic.
