American star Sebastian Korda continued his strong run at the Delray Beach Open by booking his place in the final with a commanding semi final victory over Flavio Cobolli.
Korda produced a composed and confident display to defeat the Italian 7-6 (1), 6-1, controlling the match after edging a tight opening set. The second set was one way traffic as he capitalised on his momentum to seal his spot in the championship match. The result marked another step forward for the former world No. 15 at a tournament where he first reached a tour level final five years ago.
However, it was his post match interview that drew as much attention as his performance.
During the customary on court exchange, interviewer Michelle Yu accidentally misspoke while referencing Korda’s unbeaten record against Cobolli, prompting laughter from the crowd. The slip quickly became a lighthearted moment inside the stadium.
Korda responded with humour and composure. Smiling, he paused before joking, “He’s a good looking guy, so you know…” The quick remark delighted spectators and rapidly circulated online, highlighting not only his tennis but also his personality.
Beyond the viral exchange, Korda’s run in Delray Beach signals a significant resurgence. After struggling with injuries that he previously admitted affected his competitiveness, the American appears to be rediscovering rhythm and confidence. His recent form includes six tour level wins, a quarterfinal appearance at the Dallas Open, and notable victories over top 20 opposition including Casper Ruud earlier this week.
Korda is now chasing his first ATP title since his triumph in Washington and will face either fourth seed Learner Tien or fifth seed Tommy Paul in the final.
For the Bradenton native, lifting the Delray Beach trophy would represent more than just another title. It would confirm his return to form at a tournament that holds special significance in his professional journey.
