Reigning MotoGP champion Marc Márquez says he has not ruled out owning a MotoGP team after he retires from racing, but his focus remains on competing at the highest level for now.

MotoGP star Marc Márquez says he has not yet considered owning a MotoGP team once his racing career ends, though he believes the sport will remain part of his life. The reigning premier class champion spoke about his post‑racing plans during the season‑opening round in Thailand.

Márquez stressed that his current priority is his performance on the bike. “At the moment, no, because I am fully focused on riding,” he said, explaining that when a rider is dedicated to competition, their entire life revolves around performance and results. He added that once he retires, he will reflect on his next steps. “I will finish my career, sooner or later, and then I will decide,” he said. He also confirmed that motorcycles and MotoGP will always be a significant part of his life.

The idea of former riders owning teams is not without precedent in MotoGP. Both VR46 and LCR teams were created by former grand prix competitors, Valentino Rossi and Lucio Cecchinello respectively. In addition, the team run by the late Fausto Gresini, where Marc raced with his brother Alex last season, remains active under the leadership of Gresini’s wife, Nadia Padovani.

While figures from other motorsport disciplines such as Formula 1’s Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have been linked with interest in acquiring MotoGP teams under the sport’s new ownership era led by Liberty Media, Márquez has not been drawn into that conversation. Instead, he maintains his full attention on racing and will consider life after competition when the time comes.
