As Yamaha’s 2026 Buriram pre-season test proved challenging, MotoGP star Fabio Quartararo stepped in with encouraging words for rookie teammate Toprak Razgatlioglu, helping him cope with his first real taste of the premier class.

At the recent MotoGP pre-season test in Buriram, Thailand, one of the standout moments came not from lap times but from a show of support between riders.

The two-day test at Chang International Circuit was expected to give teams a clearer picture of their form heading into the 2026 season. Instead, Yamaha’s efforts, particularly with its new V4 machinery, highlighted ongoing development challenges for the Japanese manufacturer.

Amid the tougher than expected conditions, Toprak Razgatlioglu, making his debut in the premier class with the Pramac Yamaha squad, found himself struggling for pace and confidence. The three-time World Superbike champion ended the session near the back of the timesheets, well off the lead riders and feeling the pressure of adapting to a new bike and a different tyre package.

Recognising the mental challenge facing his teammate, Quartararo took time during the test to offer encouragement and practical advice. The French rider, himself encountering frustrations with Yamaha’s performance, shared insights from his own early MotoGP experiences to help Razgatlioglu maintain a positive outlook.

Quartararo told Razgatlioglu that it is normal to struggle initially in MotoGP, especially when adjusting from a championship like World Superbikes. He emphasised the importance of patience and gradual progress, saying that with time the Turkish rider would gain confidence and comfort on the bike.

Razgatlioglu acknowledged the difficulties he is facing, explaining that the transition to MotoGP and the new technical requirements has been tough. He described working through each corner and trying to find rhythm while managing his expectations. Despite the slow lap times, he remained committed to learning and improving.

The Buriram test underlined the challenges ahead for Yamaha as it works to make its 2026 package competitive. It also highlighted the camaraderie that can exist between teammates even in the face of adversity. Quartararo’s gesture provided a morale boost for Razgatlioglu and a reminder that adaptation in MotoGP often comes gradually, particularly for riders stepping into the premier class for the first time.
