Alex Rins has voiced growing frustration with Yamaha following a difficult weekend at the United States Grand Prix, admitting he felt ineffective on the bike as technical problems continued to disrupt his performance.
The Circuit of the Americas has traditionally been a strong track for Rins, where he has previously secured victories with different manufacturers. However, his latest outing in Austin proved to be one of his most challenging, as ongoing electronic issues left him struggling to control the Yamaha M1.
Rins revealed that the problems began early in the weekend, with both of his bikes affected during practice. Although one machine was partially repaired, it did not match his preferred setup, leaving him significantly off the pace. He was around two seconds slower than the frontrunners and half a second behind the next closest rider during qualifying sessions.
The Spaniard described a lack of response from the bike, particularly under braking and when changing direction. He admitted the situation left him feeling “useless” on track, highlighting a serious loss of confidence in the machine. His comments reflect a deeper issue within the team, where reliability concerns are preventing riders from performing at their expected level.
The problems continued into the race, where Rins struggled with throttle response and overall consistency. He finished more than 11 seconds behind the other Yamaha riders, underlining the scale of the challenge. So far this season, he has collected only three championship points.
The difficulties faced by Rins mirror concerns raised by teammate Fabio Quartararo, pointing to broader technical limitations within Yamaha’s current package. While the manufacturer is working toward a future V4 engine project aimed at upcoming regulation changes, immediate reliability issues remain a major obstacle.
Rins also acknowledged uncertainty surrounding his future with the team. With performance struggles continuing, he admitted results are not helping his position as Yamaha evaluates its long term rider lineup.
As the season progresses, Yamaha faces increasing pressure to resolve its technical shortcomings. For Rins, improvements may be crucial not only for results but also for securing his place on the grid beyond the current campaign.
