Valentino Rossi’s VR46 Racing Team is close to finalizing a new long term agreement with Ducati, despite interest from rival manufacturer Aprilia. The expected deal will secure the partnership through 2029 as MotoGP prepares for its major 850cc regulation change in 2027.

The future of VR46 Racing Team appears increasingly clear, with the squad moving closer to renewing its partnership with Ducati for several more seasons. The agreement is believed to be nearing completion and would secure the collaboration through the end of the decade as the championship prepares for major technical changes.

The VR46 team has raced with Ducati machinery since entering MotoGP in 2022. During that time, the Desmosedici has proven to be one of the most competitive bikes on the grid, helping the team become a consistent presence in the fight for podiums and race victories. The current agreement between the two parties runs until the end of the 2026 season, which had sparked speculation across the paddock about the team’s long term plans ahead of the upcoming 850cc regulation changes set to arrive in 2027.

Among the manufacturers that explored a potential partnership was Aprilia, which reportedly approached VR46 about supplying bikes for the next technical era. The move reflected Aprilia’s ambition to strengthen its presence in the premier class and expand its satellite support as it seeks to challenge the leading manufacturers more aggressively.

VR46 team principal Alessio 'Uccio' Salucci confirmed that discussions with Aprilia did take place, describing them as respectful conversations between parties who share a long professional relationship. Salucci also works closely with Massimo Rivola, which partly explains why the talks occurred. However, he emphasized that the team never seriously considered leaving Ducati.

According to Salucci, the team remains extremely satisfied with its current manufacturer, highlighting Ducati’s strong performance and competitive package in MotoGP. He has openly described the Ducati machine as the best bike on the grid, reinforcing why VR46 sees little reason to explore alternatives.

Reports suggest the new contract could cover three seasons, keeping VR46 as a Ducati satellite team until at least 2029. Salucci indicated that negotiations are already at an advanced stage, with only minor details left to finalize before an agreement can be signed.

An official announcement is expected once broader commercial agreements for MotoGP’s next era are completed. If confirmed, the extension would provide important stability for VR46 as the championship prepares for its significant technical transition to 850cc machinery in 2027, ensuring the team continues its close alliance with Ducati for years to come.
